The liver intensive care unit also admits patients with conditions not related to the liver. In particular, we have a pedigree for managing very unwell cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical patients. Circulatory support (including mechanical assist devices such as aortic-balloon pump, Impella and ECMO) are managed on the Liver Intensive Care.
We are co-located with the haematology division and bone marrow transplant unit and maintain a close working relationship. We are happy to receive referrals for complex haematology patients who require organ support and will manage these patients in conjunction with a world-class team of consultant haematologists.
We welcome referrals related to other medical specialties and will consult with physicians and surgeons from other disciplines as necessary.
